Artist's Statement
Why Do I Paint?
As a classically trained painter, I believe in the power of vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes to convey emotions and create a strong visual impact. Inspired by artists like de Kooning and Pollock, I aim to challenge traditional notions of femininity in art by painting large-scale, expressive works. My goal is to use color and brushwork as tools to evoke a sense of energy, passion, and defiance.

Paula demonstrated an aptitude for painting at a young age. After attending FIT in NYC for a marketing degree she spent a year in Italy studying art. She returned to the US to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the University of Pennsylvania. Paula has recently moved to Corrales, New Mexico to create her dream studio.

Biography
Sussman has over 50 years experience and has studied art in the NJ/PA/NY tri state area. Her art is a visual journal of her life thus far, expressing emotions of pain and chaos but also of redemption, hope, and endurance.
A notable accomplishment is her award winning painting “I am not an Engineer” featured with the Onderdonk Purchase Prize of May 2020.
